Lamb of God
The roots of Lamb of God were planted in 1990 when Chris Adler, Mark Morton and John Campbell were floor mates at a Virginia Commonwealth University dormitory. Four years later (1994) the trio met up at Chris's rental house in Church Hill, Richmond to make some noise. "There was no heat at the house," recalls Campbell. "Kerosene fumes and Black Label beer were definitely what fueled our early days."

God Forbid
Soon after the group’s inception in 1996, The Out of Misery EP and debut full-length Reject The Sickness were released on the small indie label 9 Volt Records, helping GOD FORBID develop an underground and strong regional following. This buzz attracted the attention of Century Media Records, who quickly signed the band. In 2001, the band unleashed Determination – an Americanized form of thrash metal so unrelenting that it brought listeners to their knees.

Shinedown
Early in 2007, producer Rob Cavallo asked Shinedown frontman Brent Smith about his goals for the band's new album. Smith didn't hesitate.

"I said, 'You know what -- when I'm dead and gone, when everybody in this band has passed or what have you, I want the world to remember this as a record that needed to be made, and that there was a reason for it,' " Smith says. "That was the motivation behind this album.”
